First Bank Sort Codes and Branches in Nigeria 2023

first bank

A bank sort code is a type of bank code that is used to identify banks and branches in different countries. It was conceived, developed, and launched by the Bank of England when it took over responsibility for sorting banknotes in 1986. In most cases, the sort code is required to transfer money from one account held at one bank branch to another account held at the same bank or a different bank.

A sort code can be either 6 or 10 digits long. The first digit identifies which of the banking institutions’ clearing centers will process all transactions for a particular account.

The First Bank of Nigeria was founded by Sir Alfred from England in the year 1894 and has been one of the leading banks in Nigeria for about 126 years. Over the years, the bank has led the financing of private investment in infrastructure development in the Nigerian economy. This played a vital role in the Federal Government’s privatization and commercialization schemes.

The First Bank Sort Code in Nigeria has nine (9) digits. The sort code is unique to each state and local government in Nigeria.
